Baby-led weaning was first coined by a UK author, Gill Rapley. It's a style of feeding which allows your baby to explore with soft/solid finger foods early on. It's a baby-led feeding approach because it allows your baby to pick up and choose foods they are interested in trying. It can help your little one develop a healthy relationship with food and curiosity towards food. Keep in mind that babies won't get all their nutrients from finger feeding themselves so you will have to make up the difference by continuing to breastfeed, formula feed and/or spoon feed them baby food.

Keep in mind that this only works for babies who are old enough to self-feed. Usually this is around six months old when the baby can sit up by themselves and pick up things with their hands. If choking is a concern, just know that as long as you are attentive while your baby is eating and as long as you give your baby safe/soft food that he or she can "gum" on, then your baby will be fine. Never leave your baby unattended while he or she is exploring finger foods. Be sure to know the difference between gagging and choking (see article link below). It's also a good idea for all parents to get certified in baby CPR and First Aid so you feel ready and empowered if you little one chokes on something. With that being said, baby-led- weaning is a normal and healthy way to feed your baby.
Depending on your parenting style, you may or may not want to try baby-led weaning. If you are interested, watch the video below and read this article for for info.
As always, I'm here for you if have any questions about baby-led weaning. Happy eating!
Warmly,

Parenting Self-Care Tip of the Day:
Download a meditation app and try to meditate once a day while your breastfeeding or laying in bed. Deep breaths will stimulate your rest and digest system response in your body. It is also good practice for coping with future stressful moments. Inhale, lots of love in...exhale, lots of love out. You got this.
